Purpose and Principle of DC Circuit Breakers
1、 Working principle of DC Circuit Breaker
DC circuit breaker is a safe and reliable device used to protect DC circuits, which can prevent damage to equipment caused by current generated during circuit overload or failure. The working principle of a DC circuit breaker is similar to that of an AC circuit breaker, which uses components such as fuses, switches, and electromagnets to protect the circuit.
Under normal use, the current in a DC circuit will flow through the wires of the DC circuit breaker through the electromagnetic coil, generating an electromagnetic field force that causes the iron core on the coil to be attracted towards the magnetic wire mouth, thereby closing the switch. Once the circuit experiences overload or malfunction, the current will increase sharply. In this case, the electromagnetic coil will generate a greater electromagnetic field force, causing the switch to instantly disconnect and achieve the purpose of protecting the circuit.

2、 Application scope of DC circuit breaker
DC circuit breakers are widely used in various DC circuits, such as DC motors, converters, and various control circuits. Due to the fixed direction of current in DC circuits, DC circuit breakers are more stable and reliable compared to AC circuit breakers, and are also more suitable for protecting DC circuits.
3、 Can DC circuit breakers be used for AC circuits?
No. Due to the different working principles and characteristics of DC and AC circuits, DC circuit breakers cannot be used for the protection of AC circuits. The biggest difference between AC circuits and DC circuits is that the direction of current is not fixed and the frequency of current is also high. This requires better insulation performance and higher power-off capability of the switch components inside the circuit breaker to meet the special requirements of AC circuits.
In summary, a DC circuit breaker is a device used to protect the safety of DC circuits, and its working principle and application range are more stable and reliable compared to AC circuit breakers. However, DC circuit breakers cannot be used for the protection of AC circuits due to differences in the working principles and characteristics of the circuits.
