ATS Guidelines and precautions for using dual power switches

2025-05-10

1、 Basic principles and classification of Dual power switches
The dual power switch is mainly composed of the switch body, controller, and mechanical interlock. Its working principle is to monitor the voltage, frequency and other parameters of the main power supply in real time through the controller. When there is an abnormality in the main power supply (such as power outage, overvoltage, etc.), the controller sends instructions to drive the switch body to switch and transfer the load from the main power supply to the backup power supply.
According to the different switching methods, dual power switches can be divided into PC level and CB level. The PC level dual power switch adopts an integrated structure, which has the characteristics of small size and fast switching speed, and is suitable for occasions with high switching time requirements; The CB level dual power switch consists of two circuit breakers with overload and short circuit protection functions, suitable for circuits with high protection requirements.

2、 Specification for the use of dual power switches
(1) Installation specifications
Installation environment requirements: The dual power switch should be installed in a dry, well ventilated, non corrosive gas and dust free place, and the ambient temperature should meet the requirements of the product manual. Avoid installation in damp, high temperature, or environments with flammable and explosive gases to prevent equipment from getting damp, aging, or causing explosion accidents.
Installation location selection: The installation location should be easy to operate and maintain, and sufficient space should be reserved to ensure the normal operation and maintenance of the switch. At the same time, the installation of the switch should be firm and reliable, avoiding looseness caused by vibration or external forces.
Wiring requirements: Strictly follow the wiring diagram in the product manual to ensure correct and secure wiring. The incoming lines of the main power supply and backup power supply should be connected to the corresponding terminals, and the load line should be connected to the outgoing end of the switch. When wiring, attention should be paid to distinguishing between live wire, neutral wire, and ground wire to avoid misconnection.
(2) Operating standards
Pre operation check: Before operating the dual power switch, check whether the display of the controller is normal, whether the indicator lights are on, and whether the position of the switch body is correct. At the same time, it is necessary to check whether the voltage of the main and backup power sources is normal to ensure that the power supply system is in a safe state.
Manual switching operation: When manually switching the dual power switch, the load should be disconnected first, and then switch according to the direction indicated on the operating handle. During the switching process, operate slowly to avoid damaging the switch with excessive force. After the switch is completed, check whether the position of the switch is in place and whether the contacts are in good contact.
Automatic switching operation: In automatic switching mode, the controller of the dual power switch will automatically switch according to the status of the main power supply. In this mode, the operator should regularly check the working status of the controller to ensure that its monitoring and control functions are normal.
(3) Maintain standards
Regular inspection: Regularly inspect the dual power switch, including whether the appearance of the switch body is damaged, whether the wiring terminals are loose, and whether the contacts are oxidized. At the same time, it is necessary to check whether the parameter settings of the controller are correct and whether all functions are normal.
Cleaning and maintenance: Regularly clean the switch to remove dust and dirt from the surface. For the contact area, anhydrous alcohol can be used for wiping to remove the oxide layer and ensure good contact between the contacts.
Functional testing: Regularly test the switching function of the dual power switch, simulate the main power failure situation, and check whether the switch can quickly and accurately switch to the backup power supply. During the testing process, records should be kept and any issues should be promptly addressed.

3、 Precautions for using dual power switches
(1) Safety precautions
Preventing electric shock: When installing, maintaining, and inspecting dual power switches, the main and backup power sources must be disconnected first to ensure that the equipment is not electrified. Operators should wear insulation protective equipment to avoid electric shock accidents.
Prevent misoperation: The operation of the dual power switch should be strictly carried out in accordance with the operating procedures to avoid power interruption or equipment damage caused by misoperation. During the operation, the status and load condition of the switch should be confirmed to ensure the safety of the operation.
Prevent overload: The rated current of the dual power switch should match the current of the load to avoid overload operation. During use, the current condition of the load should be checked regularly, and overloading should be dealt with promptly.
(2) Other precautions
Regularly replace vulnerable parts: Some vulnerable parts of the dual power switch (such as contacts, springs, etc.) will gradually wear out during long-term use, and should be checked and replaced regularly to ensure the normal operation of the switch.
Backup controller parameters: The parameter settings of the controller are crucial for the normal operation of the dual power switch, and the controller parameters should be backed up regularly to prevent the switch from malfunctioning due to parameter loss or damage.
Pay attention to product updates: With the continuous development of technology, the performance and functionality of dual power switches are also constantly improving. Users should pay attention to the updated information of the product, timely understand the characteristics and advantages of the new product, and upgrade and transform the equipment if necessary.
The correct use and maintenance of dual power switches are of great significance for ensuring the safe and stable operation of the power supply system. Only by strictly following the usage regulations and paying attention to relevant matters can the dual power switch be fully utilized to provide reliable power protection for electrical equipment. In practical applications, users should strengthen the management and maintenance of dual power switches, continuously improve the technical level and safety awareness of operators, and ensure the safe, stable, and efficient operation of the power system.
